How to Forever Close the Gap Between Reality and Dream Life?

We all are working on something, wanting to get from A to B, and making leaps forward.

But how do we close the gap between our reality and dream to end up where we want to be?

Deep down our soul wants to grow, explore and learn, that’s essential to being a soul in a human body.

But all too often we start and eventually the progress halts, maybe even to a standstill and we feel stuck.

Stuck in the same old routine, stuck and overworked with a 70-hour work week, millions of responsibilities on our shoulders, on autopilot.

We feel lost because we put all our energy into pleasing others at work or home, and forgot to tend to our own needs.

If you’re stuck I’d like to help you bring back to hope again.

Please note: The program Self-Care Accelerator mentioned in the podcast episode is no longer available.

Even if you’re at a standstill, and have been stuck there for a while, now is the right time to start closing the gap between your reality today and where you want to be.

It’s never been a better time than right now.

Do you know why?

Because you’re reading this! And you wouldn’t be here reading this unless you’re ready.

Your subconscious already told you it’s the right time, so here you are!

At the same time, this is the moment when a lot of people chose to believe in the feelings of doubt or fear more than the feelings of excitement, and they stop.

But not you.

I’ll teach you a few tricks to gain momentum.

I used to set up these high-flying goals for changes that I wanted to make (often they were related to material things or work).

For example, it could be to have a perfectly decorated home (like a magazine!) or to outdo my team at work to exceed the monthly team goals.

However, I basically felt neutral, even though I hit the goals I had set up.

I didn’t feel really excited. I just looked for the next goal, and the next one.

Many years later, I realized that my goals were often someone else’s goals, or they were defined by someone else’s expectations.

They weren’t truly MY goals. The goals I was working towards didn’t come from within myself.

Do you want to create goals from within yourself? Book a reading to get kickstart insights!

So based on that lesson, everything changed when I started to use realistic goals for ME.

To quickly translate that lesson into what it may mean for you, and ask yourself “What truly feels realistic and authentic to YOU (and only you!)”.

Create steps that are SO realistic that you feel it’s exciting and inspiring even just thinking about it, and you can’t wait to start, as you look forward to spending more time on it.

Often we try to bite off too big of a chunk of our desires at a time, but when you’re feeling excited (and not neutral, doubtful, or fearful), THAT’S when you are open to making the real change and reaching your dream.

When you feel excited, THAT’S when you’re tapping into your true self.

When you feel resistance to change, and you’re thinking it’s not possible, you’re right! It ain’t gonna happen!!

With every step you’re creating for yourself, think about EXCITEMENT as your guiding light. If you let excitement and joy guide you, the change will come to you effortlessly.

So here we go…

1. Create realistic steps with excitement.

Realistic steps are your guiding light to make the right change at the right time.

When you trust your excitement you don’t have to doubt. Excitement is undeniable. You can feel it, others can feel it too!

So, let’s say you finally made the decision to honestly look at your reality and allow yourself to dream where you want to be.

What’s next?

Reflect on the GAP between Your Reality and Dream Life.

If you’ve followed the advice above, you can now see the gap between your reality and your dream, you feel the excitement to start acting on the opportunity to close that gap, hopefully with the support of a life coach :-), and you’ll be feeling that momentum and excitement.

But shortly thereafter, doubt sets in:

  • I have never been able to change before, so why this time?
  • Do I really have time to do this? I feel I’m never going to follow through on all of this anyway.
  • I’m worried that these changes I’d like to make may not be liked by others.
  • Who am I to think I can live a happier and more fulfilled life?

Do you recognize these thoughts?

This is exactly what happens (it will happen for you too) every time you get the momentum to make a change.

Because when we create that momentum and excitement to change, the ego (or you can call it your inner critic) comes in to try to shut down the momentum you just started.

The ego makes us believe we need to be protected from the unknown and stay where we are.

I’ll teach you another way.

When you start feeling doubt and fear well up inside, or you may not feel anything at all (like in my case feeling neutral), my recommendation is to connect with your gut feeling, your intuition.

Likely when you feel nothing, doubt, or fear, you’re not connected to your inner guide, your higher self.

Your intuition is never going to lead you down the path of relying on doubt and fear, it’s always going to connect you to your true feelings of self-love and show you what the right next step is.

You may wonder, how do you get from feeling doubtful to knowing that you’re making the right next step?

2. The secret is to slow down.

Slow down by simply taking a deep breath, taking in the present moment, and then listening.

Listen to your inner feeling of excitement, joy, and peace that is always there behind the stories that your mind has made up to make you doubt and fear a change.

At that moment, your intuition will guide you to the right next step. Because you already know what it is.

Beware of that inner critic of yours that keeps telling you that you can’t do it, or don’t have the time, or that your dream is unreachable. It’s working hard at keeping you away from your true excitement, and inner peace.

If you notice when you’re telling yourself those stories, you can make a choice if you want to believe in that story or not. You can choose to go with what your true self is telling you.

Change is not all about the mind and your inner world.

It’s also about your body and the embodiment of change through your entire being.

Yoga has been practiced since ancient times. Yoga is the practice of Being with a big B. In modern times we have started to forget that our mind and body go together.

We think of the body and mind as separate. In ancient times this was never a question.

An example of today is that many people only focus on working out the body.

Forgetting the mind.

And on the other hand, some people are spending all day in front of the computer working the mind, but never exercising the body.

Yoga connects the two. Bringing us back to Being with a big B to harmony and balance.

Of course, there are many other practices that connect the body with our soul, but yoga is my preference. Yours may be different.

Want to know the next step?

If you think about your reality today and where you want to be living your ideal dream day, you can close the gap by taking realistic steps towards your dream, connecting with what your intuition is telling you.

3. Closing the gap between your reality and dream life means a change in LIFESTYLE.

A new lifestyle is not something you fix and then walk away from.

It’s forever. Every day.

Yoga can be an accelerator to lifelong lifestyle change. By practicing yoga you connect both body and mind which has the potential to release long-captured energy (both inner and physical energy) that has kept you stuck for a long time.

Consistent yoga practice over time has the potential to accelerate the change you want.

So consider beginning now to start closing the gap between your reality today and your dream ideal day so that it can benefit you forever.

Tune into that sense of true excitement and wonder, and start closing the gap today.

  • Take 5 minutes to bring out a blank piece of paper and write your heart out about your wildest dreams.
  • How would you feel if you decided today to sign up for that yoga class you have been wanting to try out?
  • How would you feel if you shared with a friend what your ideal dream day could look like?

What is your next step toward your dream life?
